Hamedan province boosts handicraft exports past US$30 million in nine months

Exports of handicrafts from Iran’s western Hamedan Province exceeded US$30 million during the first nine months of the current Iranian year, which began on 20 March, according to official customs data.

Mohammad Reza Khalaji, Deputy Head of the Handicrafts Department at the Hamedan Directorate General for Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, said the province exported handicraft products worth approximately US$30.18 million over the reporting period.

Speaking to national media, Khalaji noted that Hamedan’s main handicraft exports include pottery and ceramics, carpet weaving, leather goods, glass products and traditional embroidery. These items account for the bulk of the province’s international handicraft trade.

According to Khalaji, export statistics cover goods shipped both through customs offices within Hamedan Province and via other customs points across the country.

IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS, reports that Hamedan is one of Iran’s major centres of traditional craftsmanship. Official figures indicate that more than 52,700 artisans are currently active in the province, working across 85 handicraft disciplines. These include pottery and ceramics, wood carving and mosaic work, embroidery, gemstone carving, traditional jewellery making, carpet weaving and leather production.

Authorities note that the handicrafts sector continues to play a significant role in regional employment, cultural preservation and non-oil exports, contributing to both local economic development and Iran’s international cultural outreach.
