Heart Shaped Diamond Found in Yakutia
A heart shaped diamond has been found in the “Udachnaya” kimberlite pipe in Yakutia. The stone weighs 65.7 carats.
According to experts, it is more than three hundred million years old. "Wild diamonds very rarely have a form of a subject or a symbol. The majority of diamonds have octahedral form, or no special form at all.
The fact that we’ve found a heart-shaped diamond, especially on the eve of St. Valentine's Day, is a symbolical gift of nature not only to our company, but also to all loving couples", said Evgeny Agureev, the Board Member and the Director of the United Selling Organization ALROSA, a member of the Russian group of diamond-mining companies.
Last year gifted ALROSA a lot of unusual finds. In the summer 2018, during the FIFA World Cup, the company presented a soccer-ball-shaped diamond, and at Halloween, a skull-shaped diamond. For reference: the “Udachnaya” kimberlite pipe was opened in 1955, its open mining began in 1971 and continues to the present day.
It is situated in the city of Udachny (Yakutia), 550 km to the North from Mirny.
