Hegmataneh becomes new treasure on the UNESCO World Heritage List

The inscription of Hegmataneh (Ecbatana), the ancient capital of the Median Dynasty, on the UNESCO World Heritage List has been a triumph for Iran

Hegmataneh, being Iran's 28th site on the World Heritage List, underlines the exceptional significance of the city of Hamadan, which preserves numerous historical and cultural artefacts from different eras.

Hegmataneh is a symbol of unity among Iranians and a city whose history is connected to the periods of the Median, Achaemenid, Parthian, and Sassanid dynasties. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Hegmataneh (Ecbatana) was the capital of the powerful Median Empire and later became an important centre of the Achaemenid Empire. It has a rich history connected to various dynasties: the Seleucid, Parthian, Sassanid, and Islamic periods.

To this day, much of the city remains unexplored, promising new discoveries and shedding light on ancient Iran.

Hegmataneh’s inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List is a testament to Iran's rich and long history, confirming its importance in shaping the cultural landscape of the region.
