I am Running for a Boatswain!

The list of prohibited professions for Russian women has been cut massively. The Ministry of Labor has "edited" this list.

Now the law allows Russian ladies to work as long-distance truck drivers, to drive an electric train, to apply for a vacancy of the car mechanic, and even to run for boatswains. Furthermore, they can work as skippers, sailors, sky-divers, tractor operators, inshore and ice fisherwomen – with a throw net.

But still, 21 kinds of industries, jobs and positions remain unchanged. Among them are chemical production, mining, metallurgy, and others.

Ladies will still be forbidden to build subways and extract ore, for these professions suppose not only hard physical work, but also health hazard, including that for reproductive system, informs the tvbrics.com reporter with the reference to the rbc.ru website.

All these professional permissions will come into force in 2 years. Since January 1, 2021, the new draft of the list of the jobs and positions prohibited for women in Russia should come into legal force. It will replace the similar document issued twenty years ago, in which 456 jobs and professions were prohibited for women. Only 98 job titles in which women labor is restricted remain in the new list.

The new document "On the Approval of the List of Industries, Jobs and Positions with Harmful and Dangerous Working Conditions on Which Women Labor Is Limited" is finished with the assistance of employers and labor unions.
