II International PlayButton Short Film Festival 2020 Best Movies by Young Filmmakers for TV BRICS Audience
TV BRICS shall award with the Russian TV premier the winners of II International PlayButton Short Film Festival 2020 in three nominations:TV BRICS Best International Short Film, TV BRICS Best International Documentary Film,and Best Indian Short Film.
This time, II International PlayButton Short Film Festival has admitted about 200 application from 38 countries. Film Directors from all BRICS States shall take part in the event.
According to the PlayButton organizers, sci-fi thrillers and psychodrama are expected to be the most popular this year. The official programme also has short documentaries.
The results shall be presented at the Closing Ceremony to be held atthe Russian Centre of Science and CultureRossotrudnichestvo, Chennai, on March 13, 2020.Same day is set for the special screening of documentary films from Brazil, Russia, China and the RSA, sponsored by TV BRICS, the international media network.
Within the Russian programme, Alena Benzik, a journalist of Prodvizhenie Channel, presents ‘No Place for Old Men’, the documentary on ageing problem and everyday routine of senior people in various countries of the world.
Brazil is presented by Jefferson Sousa, the 25 years old newsperson from Ipatetim, with the documentary about a countryside poet Leonardo Bastião, who is totally illiterate, i.e. incapable neither to write nor read, however succeeds in creating incomparable poetic works. This 74-years old man discourses on his own life and poetry: the videos where he recites own poems get million views in the Internet. Some of his works were written down by the fans and published as a separate poetry book. The audience of the Indian PlayButton Short Film Festival will explore the phenomenon of Leonardo Bastião.
The Chinese documentary filmmakers from Renmin Ribao Online demonstrate their short film about the city of Hézé, Shandong province. Bringing out the stories of the local residents, the film shows how one of the poorest towns in China comes into full blossom. This movie named ‘Peony in Blossom’ focuses on the viewers’ attention on the contradiction between the beauty and inspiration, on the one hand,and extreme poverty, on the other: among the flowering peony, we bump intothe life scenes of the poorest neighborhoodsin Hézé.
The TV traveler from the Republic of South Africa tells in his film about the motorcycle race across the African continent. Having made over 250,000 km and visited 40 countries in Africa, Johan Badenhorst became one of the most popular explorers of the continent. This film from the series named Voetspore – ‘a footprint’ in Afrikaans – will be a part of the BRICS States’programme at PlayButton Short Film Festival 2020 in Chennai.
The BRICS documentary screening in Chennai is next in the series of film festivals, while the first took place during October 2019 XXX Russia Open Documentary Festival in Yekaterinburg, as supported byTV BRICS. Then, the filmmakers presented four television documentaries from China, Brazil and India. The BRICS States’ documentary programme at the large film events globally is a great opportunity to enhance the concept of the modern documentary and present the growth of film industry in the BRICS States.
II International PlayButton Short Film Festival 2020 is held by the Indo-Russian Cinemas and the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Chennai, India. This large-scale event is arranged to support young film directors, up to 35, from India, and open new names in Indian filmmaking. The fest is aimed at expanding the cooperation between Indian and Russian filmmakers in the area of co-production, maintain sharing experience between the cinematographers around the world. Traditionally, the official programme includes short films of all genres: both fiction and documentary. In 2020, several categories are there in the programme: films in Tamil, Indian movies, films in other languages, and the international film contest.
