In Brazil the Internet will be made more accessible
Brazilian Ministry of Communications has signed an agreement with the National Bank Foundation and the Small Business Support Service (SEBRAE) to deploy additional public Wi-Fi hotspots. It is planned that they will start working in the country already next year. ZDNet IT portal writes.
At the moment, many Brazilians have no Internet access. According to Fabio Faria, the Minister of Communications, about 40 million people cannot access the Network. It is noted that there is practically no Internet access in the north of Brazil in Amazon region.
The new program is designed to solve this problem for at least 8.5 million citizens.
Brazil currently has a network of approximately 14,000 public hotspots. The population accesses the Internet via Wi-Fi, and satellite hotspots are used to communicate with remote areas.
The recently signed agreement implies the deployment of public Wi-Fi hotspots in 1,000 locations across the country. It is reported that the new hotspots will expand the current Brazilian free wireless network.
According to the Brazilian Communications Office, education and culture related network resources will be additionally prepared within the framework of the agreement.
