In honour of 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Russia, China to show series of programmes about unique Russian cities

Residents of an Asian country will be able to get acquainted with the Russian countryside

China Media Group (CMG) will show a full series of programmes about unique cities of Central Russia, prepared by TV BRICS. New episodes of the "City of Stories" project will air on the CGTN-Russian TV channel of the Chinese Global Television Network (CGTN) CMG. Viewers saw the first season in 2023.

The telethon of programmes about the history, traditions and development of the oldest Russian cities is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the celebration of the Years of Culture between Russia and China (2024-2025).

Huang Yinan, Director of CGTN's Russian Service, said that the first season of "City of Stories" received a positive response and was approved and appreciated by the audience, so it was decided to continue broadcasting this series of TV BRICS programmes.

"CGTN-Russian TV channel plans to start airing the second season of the series "City of Stories" in May. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to TV BRICS for its long and active support. We have made fruitful progress in such aspects as the exchange of information materials, mutual rebroadcasting of programmes, production of reports and much more," Huang Yinan noted. “In 2024, the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and hold the Russian-Chinese Years of Culture. I hope that through our joint efforts we will continue to deepen the traditional friendship between the peoples of our countries, as well as strengthen mutual trust."

The "City of Stories" programme will be broadcast on CGTN-Russian's Eurasia Time block (Vremya Evrazii) with repeats throughout the day.

Janna Tolstikova, CEO of TV BRICS, emphasised that CGTN is one of the media network's strategic partners in China. During three years of joint work CGTN and TV BRICS have successfully implemented several major interstate information projects. For example, in 2023, the partners prepared a special programme "Point of View" for the XV BRICS Summit in South Africa and an expert media project for the Third International Forum "One Belt, One Road" in China.

"We note the high professional level of colleagues from China, their care in the selection and production of content. CGTN RUS channel is active with audiences in Russian-speaking countries and is in demand among Chinese people learning Russian as a foreign language. We hope that TV BRICS programmes will help to broaden the understanding of Russia and allow to effectively promote Russian language and culture through media. In its turn, TV BRICS regularly broadcasts CGTN RUS materials dedicated to China. In 2024, the Russian edition of the international network is preparing several thematic projects, which we will be happy to share with Chinese partners and the CGTN RUS audience"

Janna Tolstikova CEO of TV BRICS

The series of programmes "City of Stories" was created by the TV BRICS international network. Two seasons of the project were released between 2022 and 2023, totalling 29 episodes of 25 minutes each. The authors told about the most interesting small towns of Central Russia, located in the Vladimir, Kaluga, Moscow, Ryazan, Tver and Yaroslavl regions. Among them are the ancient cities of the Golden Ring: Suzdal, Vladimir, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Yaroslavl and Kostroma.

The project aims to promote the UN General Assembly's Sustainable Development Goal No. 11 (make cities and human settlements open, safe, resilient and environmentally sustainable), which was endorsed at the XV BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

"City of Stories" has been adapted into English, Chinese, Portuguese and Spanish. TV BRICS media partners have already shown the programme in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and South Africa. The project episodes are published on their Internet platforms by diplomatic agencies and cultural centres of the Russian Federation abroad, including the Russian Embassy in South Africa and the Russian House of Rossotrudnichestvo in Chennai (India).
