In Rio, the ID card to have a unique CPF number
The Rio de Janeiro Transit Department (Detran.RJ) has begun issuing a National Identity Card (CIN). Her unique number will be taken from the Brazilian taxpayer register CPF (Cadastro de Pessoa Física), in order to prevent fraud. Initially, as a pilot project, the new document will only be issued to children aged 0 to 11 years who request a first copy of their RG (identity document) at any Detran.RJ civil identification point in Rio de Janeiro State.
To be issued with a document that will be accepted nationwide, the child must have an original birth certificate with a number from the register (CPF). Those who do not have a CPF issued by the Federal Tax Service will receive old-style documents. Before obtaining your ID card, you can register in the CPF taxpayer register on the Tax Administration website or at partner offices such as the National Bank of Brazil (Banco do Brasil), the Brazilian State Savings Bank (Caixa Economica Federal), the Post Office and the registries.
The new CIN has a QR code that allows you to check the authenticity of the document and also to find out if it has been stolen or lost. It also includes an international code used in passports, called MRZ, which facilitates the use of the identity card as a travel document, readable at self-service terminals at Brazilian airports. Modern graphic elements also make forging a new model more difficult.
According to Detran.RJ's president, with the new document, a person will be identified through a unique number, CPF. In each state of the federation, citizens can obtain RGs with different numbers. A national ID card avoids duplicate registrations and discourages fraud.
In the future, citizens will also be able to access the new CIN digitally via the federal government's app. Once a printed document has been issued, users can download the app from the IOS or Android shops, register and access the document via their mobile phone, tablet or computer. Detran.RJ will also be expanding access to the new document to citizens of other age groups in the near future.
The validity of a new CIN depends on the age of the person: it is 5 years for children under 11 and 10 years for those aged between 12 and 59. It is indefinite for people aged 60 and over.
According to the federal decree establishing the CIN, the document in its previous format will be valid in the country until 28 February 2032. Users will therefore not be required to have a new national identity card until nine years from now. People aged 60 and over will have the option of not having to change their document, as reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
