India and Malaysia sign agreement to boost tourism
India and Malaysia have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector. The agreement, signed by the tourism ministries of both countries, aims to promote and market tourism products and services, as well as strengthen political, economic and socio-cultural relations. This was reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
The agreement will encourage investment in tourism infrastructure and services, as well as the exchange of information on medical tourism. It will also focus on business tourism, including meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions, and promote cooperation between operators and travel agents, as well as the development of ecotourism and responsible tourism.
Malaysia is a major source market for India, with more than 250,000 Malaysian tourists visiting the country by 2022. Indian authorities expect this figure to increase thanks to the new agreement.
With diplomatic relations since 1957, the two countries have close ties. Malaysia is India's 13th largest trading partner and home to nearly three million Indians, while India is among Malaysia's top ten trading partners.
