India celebrates its first National Space Day in honour of the Chandrayaan-3 mission
The country showcases technological advancement and scientific potential
India is celebrating its first National Space Day on 23 August 2024. The date is chosen to honour the successful completion of the Chandrayaan-3 mission in 2023, when the Vikram landing module made a soft landing on the surface of the moon. India became the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first country to land near its South Pole.
The Government of India declared 23 August as "National Space Day" to inspire the younger generation to take an interest in space science and technology. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
To mark this historic occasion, the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Government of India, is organising a series of workshops and demonstrations to showcase the application of space technology in the fisheries sector.
"The outcome of this historic mission will benefit mankind in the years to come," the Department of Space said in a statement.
National Space Day aims to highlight India's achievements in space exploration and inspire future generations to participate in the field.
