India deepens ties with Latin America through high-level diplomatic visits to Ecuador, Bolivia, and Cuba

Across all three countries, discussions focused on expanding collaboration in health, digital public infrastructure, and artificial intelligence

India has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening ties with Latin America as Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita concluded an official visit to Ecuador, Bolivia, and Cuba from 4 to 10 November. The visit marked a new step in advancing cooperation in technology, health, culture, and sustainable development, underlining India’s vision of inclusive global growth, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

In Ecuador, Margherita met with President Daniel Noboa Azin and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero to discuss strengthening bilateral collaboration in digital technology, artificial intelligence, and science and technology.

During the visit, India announced the opening of its Embassy in Quito and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Indian and Ecuadorian diplomatic training institutes. The Minister invited Ecuadorian candidates to continue benefiting from training opportunities under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme, highlighting the importance of skills exchange. Both nations agreed to hold the next round of Foreign Office Consultations in India in early 2026.

In Bolivia, Margherita engaged with representatives of the local cultural and academic communities, emphasising the role of knowledge exchange in strengthening bilateral relations.

Further, iIn Cuba, Margherita met with President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Deputy Prime Ministers Eduardo Martinez Diaz and Oscar Perez-Oliva, and Acting Foreign Minister Gerardo Penalver Portal to discuss ways to enhance bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation.

Across all three countries, discussions focused on expanding collaboration in health and pharmaceuticals, Ayurveda and yoga, digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, trade in critical minerals, textiles, and tourism. The Minister also proposed hosting Indian cultural and educational events across Latin America to promote greater people-to-people engagement.

Margherita reaffirmed that India remains committed to working with Ecuador, Bolivia, and Cuba in advancing South–South cooperation, guided by shared values of partnership, mutual respect, and collective progress.
