India expands global access for MSMEs with post office export centres

This scheme aims to simplify access to international markets for artisans, weavers, and craftsmen

India has unveiled an innovative initiative to boost exports from its Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through post offices, introducing a network of over 1,000 Post Office Export Centres.

Announced by the Ministry of Communications, this scheme aims to simplify access to international markets for artisans, weavers, and craftsmen across India.

Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, emphasised the goal of establishing such centres in every district, enabling local businesses to trade goods like gems, jewellery, textiles, leather products, spices, and more with buyers worldwide.

The initiative also targets streamlined export processes, bypassing conventional complexities associated with air and sea consignments. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

With agreements in place between India’s Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and 41 countries, these centres offer enhanced tracking services and reduced shipping costs, particularly benefiting importers in Gulf countries. The move underscores India's commitment to empowering its MSMEs and fostering robust global trade links.
