India kicks off annual 75th anniversary of independence
India will launch a year-long celebration to commemorate 75 years of Independence with a slew of programmes and projects to showcase 'development, governance, technology, reform, progress and policy' over the years.
The Prime Minister's Office has initiated an exhaustive exercise to frame a plan to commemorate the 75th year of Indian Independence. ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ entails a series of events to be organised by the Government of India on this occasion.
On March 31, the Indian Embassy in Moscow is launching a series of events as a part of the Mahotsav. Over the next few months, the Embassy will host exhibitions, conferences, competitions, dance and educational events, publish several books on prominent figures of Indian history and culture to celebrate this landmark date.
Next month, Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Center in Moscow will also be celebrating its anniversary. A book in the Russian language about Swami Vivekananda, an outstanding Indian philosopher, will be released. Manish Khattey’s photo exhibition devoted to the holy city of Varanasi and life on the shores of the Ganges takes place in mid-April. In the end of the month we are going to celebrate the International Dance Day.
In May, the Embassy invites active sport lovers to join the Moscow Cycling Festival, where it will also actively participate. This year also marks the 160th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. On this occasion, in early May, the Embassy, in cooperation with the Russian State Library, will hold an exhibition of the great poet's books.
In June, the Bollywood Film Festival will take place, which will acquaint the Russian audience with brand new movies. The annual celebration of International Yoga Day will take place on June 20 in a grand way. Various events will be held in Moscow and about 70 regions of the country that will help all participants to find the balance and harmony that are so crucial today.
In the same month the Embassy, in conjunction with the Indian Ministry of Textiles, also plans to hold a fashion show displaying khadi, a hand-made fabric, which was originally fashioned by Mahatma Gandhi himself.
All this is only a small part of what awaits you in the coming year.
