India’s expanding data centre network to generate more than 433,000 jobs by 2030

India’s planned expansion of data centre infrastructure could create approximately 433,000 jobs by 2030, while accelerating urban development, according to a new industry assessment.

India currently generates around 20 per cent of the world's digital data, yet accounts for 4 per cent of global data centre capacity, highlighting significant potential for future infrastructure development, as reported by IANS, a TV BRICS partner.

The country's planned data centre pipeline, with a projected capacity of nearly 9,030 megawatts (MW), is expected to support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital transformation, strengthening India's position as a global digital economy hub.

Beyond the technology sector, the expansion is projected to stimulate broader economic activity through investment in electricity networks, fibre-optic connectivity, transport infrastructure and commercial services, creating new development corridors around major data centre facilities.

Experts believe these infrastructure projects will become powerful drivers of urban growth, encouraging the construction of mixed-use developments, residential communities, retail facilities and public infrastructure in surrounding areas.

As India continues investing in advanced digital infrastructure, data centres are increasingly viewed as strategic assets supporting economic growth, employment, technological innovation and the development of next-generation smart urban ecosystems.
