India's foreign minister begins visit to Iran

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will hold a meeting with Hossein Amir Abdollahian

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has started a two-day visit to Iran as part of the high-level dialogue between the two countries, diplomatic sources said.

The Indian foreign minister is scheduled to meet his counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Iranian soil. The meeting will discuss relations between the countries as well as regional and international developments.

Other important issues include political co-operation, connectivity initiatives and strengthening relations between the two nations. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

India-Iran relations are millennia old. The countries shared a common border until 1947 and have a number of commonalities in language, culture and traditions.

Both in South Asia and the Persian Gulf, there are strong trade markets, energy, cultural and people-to-people ties between the states.
