India's rice acreage aims for record high of over 408,000 hectares

India has witnessed an increase in rice acreage due to more abundant monsoon rains. The rice sown area aimed at a record high in the last five years, indicating favourable conditions for the country's agriculture sector.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, rice sowing area exceeded 408,000 hectares, up 3.84 per cent from last year. The total Kharif sown area, which includes rice, also increased by 1.91 per cent over last year. This is reported by IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

The increase in sown area was due to more abundant monsoon rains, which allowed increased sowing in rainfed areas.

The Indian Government continues to invest in agricultural development to improve productivity and sustainability, including:

• digital infrastructure development;

• supporting oilseed crop production;

• creating large clusters for vegetable cultivation.

These measures are aimed at strengthening the agriculture sector and improving the country's food security.
