India claims new world junior record and seven medals at Asian Youth Games

India claims seven medals in a single day in women’s weightlifting

Indian weightlifter Priteesmita Bhoi made history at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, setting a new world junior record in the 44 kg clean and jerk category with a lift of 92 kg, earning the gold medal, according to Trinity Mirror, a partner of TV BRICS.

Bhoi also secured silver in the snatch with a lift of 66 kg, bringing India’s tally to two medals from her performance alone. Her victory marks India’s first individual gold of the Games, following earlier team triumphs in both the men’s and women’s kabaddi competitions.

In the same discipline, India’s Arumugapandian Maharajan won two silver medals in the 60 kg category, lifting 114 kg in snatch and 142 kg in clean and jerk.

India also impressed in athletics and combat sports. The women’s medley relay team claimed silver with a time of 2:09.65, while gymnast Alphonsa Zinia Wriang took bronze in the Wai Kru 16–17 final. The mixed taekwondo team added another bronze to India’s medal count.

In total, India has so far earned 24 medals, three golds, ten silvers and eleven bronzes, with 222 athletes representing the nation at the Games.
