India unveils updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan centred on agro-diversity
India submitted its revised National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), highlighting a commitment to enhancing agrobiodiversity, area-based conservation, and building ecosystem resilience. This updated strategy aims to establish a coordinated global response to biodiversity loss, as reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
The newly updated NBSAP outlines 23 National Biodiversity Targets (NBTs). These targets are designed to address critical conservation priorities across six key areas: area-based conservation, ecosystem resilience, recovery of threatened species, agrobiodiversity, sustainable use of biodiversity, and the establishment of enabling conditions for effective implementation.
Additionally, the NBSAP highlights India's advancements in community-led conservation efforts and the protection of agrobiodiversity. With 277,688 Biodiversity Management Committees established and 22 identified agrobiodiversity hotspots, India is promoting sustainable practices while safeguarding traditional knowledge systems.
