Indonesia projects 6,800 green jobs from nuclear energy drive

Government outlines employment potential across renewable sectors

Indonesia expects to generate more than 6,800 green jobs through the planned development of nuclear power plants, positioning atomic energy as part of its wider transition towards renewables. This is reported by VNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung said that both small modular reactors and larger-scale nuclear facilities could provide substantial employment opportunities.

He emphasised that the government has mapped workforce competencies to match industry needs while updating vocational training curricula and preparing specialised institutions to deliver the necessary skills.

Beyond nuclear power, Tanjung noted that Indonesia’s renewable energy sectors hold significant potential for job creation. Projections indicate the solar industry could employ more than 348,000 people, hydropower over 129,000, and battery development around 68,000.

Officials argue that diversifying the country’s energy portfolio will not only advance climate goals but also stimulate sustainable economic growth. The push is part of Indonesia’s long-term strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, expand clean energy capacity, and support a greener workforce for the future.
