Prabowo Subianto (full name – Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo) was born on 17 October 1951 in Jakarta. He comes from a prominent Javanese family. His father, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, held several ministerial positions between the 1950s and 1970s.

Prabowo Subianto assumed office as President of Indonesia in October 2024 after winning the February 2024 presidential election.

As head of state, he has identified his key priorities as accelerating economic growth, reducing poverty, and increasing foreign investment. He also aims to promote domestic industry and complete the relocation of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to the new city of Nusantara on the island of Kalimantan.

Under his leadership, Indonesia became an official member of the BRICS group in 2025 and began to strengthen its cooperation with member countries, with a particular focus on economic cooperation, investment, sustainable development, and food security.

In 2025, Indonesia and South Africa, within the framework of BRICS, agreed to explore deeper collaboration in trade and enterprise development, targeting key sectors such as palm oil, rubber, and motor vehicles.

With Russia, Indonesia recently signed a memorandum covering 2025–2029 to promote sports cooperation, including the exchange of coaches, joint competitions, and youth development; already, more than 190 Russian athletes visited Indonesia in 2025.

Meanwhile, Indonesia and Brazil have formalised agreements to expand beef exports and enhance cooperation in food security, education, and sanitary standards.

The Subianto administration maintains a multilateral dialogue with the group and promotes South-South cooperation through various regional and global platforms aligned with BRICS priorities. At the moment, Indonesia is actively strengthening cooperation with Peru and Chile. Jakarta is building on existing trade agreements with both countries while pursuing broader engagement with the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) to integrate further into regional supply chains.
