International conference on literary translation is held in India

The aim is to create a platform for rethinking culture, literature and translation in today's world

The international conference "Rethinking the significance of culture, literature and literary translation" was held in India. The conference was part of the programme of the Russian stand at the World Book Fair in New Delhi. This year thirty-five countries are taking part in it. Every day the fair is visited by up to thirty thousand people.

Vadim Polonsky, Director of A. M. Gorky Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academ of Science, Evgeny Reznichenko, Executive Director of the Institute of Translation, and Oleg Osipov, Director of the Russian House in New Delhi, spoke at the opening of the event.

The event included a series of sessions: "Celebrating journeys across borders," "Literary translator – serving two masters?", "Transcending Boundaries of genre," "Translation – issues challenges," and others.

The lectures were delivered by professors from Indian and Russian universities, including Moscow State University, Punjab University and University of Mysore.

During the two days of exchange through lectures and discussions, the participants gained a deeper understanding of the complexities of literary translation.
