International experts aim to enhance the tracking of microplastic-related marine contamination

A programme for technological cooperation involves 61 nations

To monitor marine microplastics, a global network of advanced laboratories has been established by experts in the fight against plastic pollution. This is reported by Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

Through the application of techniques that may be utilised to comprehend the origin, movement, and effects of microplastics on the marine environment, the project seeks to unite contributors and partners from the public and business sectors worldwide in the fight against plastic pollution.

The United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Ocean, Peter Thomson, and Jyoti Mathur-Filipp, Executive Secretary, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee.

The project's main goal is to set up an international network of labs to track microplastics, exchange best practices, and create guidelines.

The technical cooperation programme, in which 61 nations are involved, seeks to facilitate the creation of a global network of laboratories by the end of 2027 that will be able to monitor microplastics in the ocean.
