Iran advocates cultural diplomacy through BRICS national libraries

The BRICS representatives recommended creating dedicated cultural sections in national libraries to introduce literary works from member states

Iran has called for enhanced cultural diplomacy among BRICS nations, emphasising the pivotal role of national libraries in fostering deeper cultural and scientific connections. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Speaking at the BRICS National Library Alliance Summit held in Moscow, Gholamreza Amirkhani, head of the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI), highlighted the shared cultural and historical wealth of BRICS countries.

Amirkhani pointed to the remarkable contributions of BRICS nations to human civilisation, citing milestones such as ancient Egyptian innovations, China's advancements in paper and printing, and India’s historic libraries.

He also drew attention to the preservation of precious manuscripts in libraries across Iran and the UAE, as well as the Islamic heritage.

Proposing initiatives to enhance cooperation, Amirkhani suggested hosting joint exhibitions, cultural weeks, and resource exchanges. He also recommended creating dedicated cultural sections in national libraries to introduce and translate literary works from member states.

"By leveraging the country’s rich cultural and historical heritage, the National Library and Archives of Iran is prepared to take a pioneering and effective role in implementing joint cultural, scientific, and informational projects at the international level, thereby contributing to sustainable and impactful cooperation among BRICS member countries," he stated.

The summit, attended by directors of national libraries from Brazil, China, India, Russia, South Africa, and new BRICS members such as Egypt, focused on flagship projects aimed at enhancing digital services and community engagement. The event also featured the BRICS Culture Days, showcasing calligraphy exhibitions, regional studies lectures, and masterclasses.
