Iran boosts AI research with US$115 million fund investment

This initiative aims to support AI-focused universities and private research centres across the country

Iran has committed US$115 million to advance artificial intelligence (AI) research and development, marking a significant investment in the nation’s technological future. This is reported by Press TV, a partner of TV BRICS.

Iran announced the funding as part of a newly signed memorandum of understanding with the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. This initiative aims to support AI-focused universities and private research centres across the country.

The agreement allocates approximately US$15.6 million as grants to commercialise innovative AI projects. An additional US$100 million will be provided in loans to bolster the development of AI initiatives. The ministry will oversee the projects’ progress and ensure optimal use of the funding.

Hossein Simayi Sarraf, Iran’s science minister, emphasised the strategic importance of the initiative, stating, “AI has spread everywhere, and this is undeniable. Major countries of the world have made huge investments in AI, and we will also increase investment in this field.”

In recent months, Iran has launched key projects to integrate AI into government institutions and private enterprises.
