Iran reports record gas transmission and infrastructure achievements for 2024
Iran has transmitted 133 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas through its extensive national network in the first half of the Iranian calendar year (March 20–September 21). This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
74 per cent of scheduled overhaul and development targets for this year have already been accomplished, with full completion anticipated by March 2025.
Since March, Iran has achieved 1,267 km of smart tracking, cleaned around 2,000 km of pipelines, detected leaks across 26,000 km, replaced 2,100 meters of pipeline, re-coated 70,543 square meters, and completed 18 hot taps.
Additionally, an Iranian company has laid 106 kilometres of optical fibre this year, expanding its network to 9,000 km and improving communications across its stations.
The native enterprises now relie significantly on Iranian contractors for turbine repairs, marking a shift from foreign reliance to domestic expertise. This aligns with Iran’s push to strengthen local industry participation in critical infrastructure projects.
With the largest natural gas network in West Asia, the Iranian companies continue to expand, now providing access to over 98 per cent of Iran’s urban and 90 per cent of its rural populations.
