Iran uncovers ancient entombment in 7,000-year-old mound

This excavation is notable as it marks the first comprehensive investigation of the site in nearly 30 years

In a reacent archaeological discovery, a team of Iranian archaeologists has unearthed a well-preserved entombment at Cheshmeh-Ali mound, a 7,000-year-old site located in Rey, southern Tehran.

This find, believed to date back to circa 4300 BC, offers an intriguing glimpse into one of Iran’s earliest settlements and its rich prehistoric culture. This is reported by Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

The team revealed that the burial site and skeletal remains were discovered within an architectural layer attributed to the Sialk III era. The dating of the skeleton aligns with pottery and architectural remnants found nearby, strengthening its connection to the early civilisation in the region.

The further excavation in upcoming seasons may enhance understanding of the architectural landscape and social customs that characterised life in this ancient settlement.

This excavation at Cheshmeh-Ali is notable as it marks the first comprehensive investigation of the site in nearly 30 years.
