Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia on January 17

The International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is to be at the centre of the agreement

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to visit Russia in January 2025 to sign a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by Press TV, a partner of TV BRICS.

Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Russia, confirmed the planned visit, highlighting that the agreement represents a significant milestone in Tehran-Moscow relations, solidifying long-term cooperation across various sectors.

"The [Iranian] president will travel to Russia on January 17, and during the trip the cooperation agreement between the two countries will be signed by Pezeshkian and [his Russian counterpart Vladimir] Putin," he said.

Jalali emphasised that economic initiatives, such as the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and the project to transfer Russian gas to Iran, will be central to the agreement.

The groundwork for this visit and the partnership pact was laid during the BRICS summit in Kazan on 23 October 2024, where Presidents Pezeshkian and Putin held a bilateral meeting. Both leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing collaboration between their nations, culminating in this formal agreement.
