IX China-Russia Youth Games are open

The event is hosted in Chongqing in southwest China⁠

The opening ceremony of the IX China-Russia Youth Games was attended by Shen Yiqin, member of the State Council of China and by the Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin. Shen announced the official start of the Games, as reported by CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the Beijing Winter Olympics last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin jointly announced the official launch of the 2022-2023 Years of Sports Exchange between the two countries.

The China-Russia Youth Games, a landmark event of the Year of Sports Exchange, brings together a total of 440 athletes from both sides in 62 competitions in eight sports.

The first medals will be awarded today, 23 May, in swimming. The competition will finish on 26 May.

During the Games, there will also be a number of sports and cultural events aimed at strengthening sports cooperation and friendship between the two nations.
