Kazakhstan–Russia trade reaches 95% settlement in national currencies

Trade between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation is now conducted almost entirely in national currencies, with nearly 95 per cent of transactions settled in roubles and tenge, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by  Kazinform, partner of TV BRICS.

Speaking during a meeting with heads of international news agencies on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Putin highlighted this development as a key stabilising factor in bilateral trade relations.

Putin emphasised that settling trade in national currencies protects mutual economic exchange from global financial disruptions, particularly those affecting cross-border payment systems. This approach, he noted, enables continued growth in trade turnover between the two countries.

The Russian President also pointed to the expanding humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia, especially in the field of education, and expressed confidence in the sustained development of these ties.

Experts believe that the shift toward national currencies in trade is viewed as a significant marker of the two countries’ broader regional integration efforts.
