Kyrgyzstan hosts Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit

Meetings of participants in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit have begun in Bishkek. It will be the main concluding event of Kyrgyzstan's SCO chairmanship in 2025–2026, held under the motto "25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity", according to the website of the President of Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation will take place on 1 September, while high-level events are scheduled for 31 August – 1 September. Bishkek will host a high-level meeting in the SCO Plus format, as well as the opening ceremony of the 6th World Nomad Games, which will be attended by heads of delegations.
The summit is attended by the heads of state of SCO member states, as well as representatives of international organisations and high-ranking guests. The heads of state will discuss current issues on the international and regional agenda, priority areas for the further development of the SCO, and prospects for deepening cooperation in the political, trade and economic, transport and logistics, digital, environmental, and cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Following the meeting, the Bishkek Declaration of the 25th Anniversary of the SCO, as well as documents and decisions aimed at further strengthening multifaceted cooperation, will be signed.
On the first day of the summit, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. The heads of state signed a Treaty on Eternal Good-Neighbourliness, Friendship and Cooperation, as well as a joint declaration by the two countries on the high-quality development of a comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era. During the state visit of the President of the People's Republic of China, more than 30 bilateral documents covering various areas of cooperation were signed.
In addition, Sadyr Zhaparov met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and discussed prospects for cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the international organisation, according to the website of the President.
Kyrgyzstan is hosting the SCO Summit for the fourth time. Previously, SCO leaders met in Bishkek in 2007, 2013 and 2019.
