Lavrov calls BRICS the embodiment of a synergy of cultures and civilisations

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry called the BRICS association a model of genuine multilateral diplomacy that meets modern realities. This was reported by Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

"BRICS embodies the synergy of cultures and civilisations from different regions of the planet. This international structure is a model of genuine multilateral diplomacy in keeping with the realities of the 21st century."

In his address, Lavrov also noted that the annual forum held in St. Petersburg had become a sought-after and actively developing platform for interaction between stakeholders - the authorities and the business community. As the Russian foreign minister noted, the business event is attended not only by representatives of the BRICS member states, but also by partner countries from Asia, Africa, Central and South America.

Recall that in early November this year, the Russian foreign minister said at a meeting with his Indian counterpart that at least 12 countries were already showing interest in joining BRICS. However, Lavrov said the criteria and principles for dealing with such appeals must first be agreed upon. He added that if formal applications are submitted, the process of deciding whether or not a country should join the BRICS should not take long.
