Live COVID-19 updates: Argentina's COVID-19 death tally surpasses 29,000

The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.


BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina on Monday reported 406 more deaths from COVID-19, pushing the country's COVID-19 death tally to 29,301, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry also reported 11,712 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,102,301, with 909,586 recoveries.

BOGOTA -- The number of COVID-19 infections in Colombia has reached 1,025,052, with 9,167 new cases registered in the last 24 hours, Colombian health authorities said Monday.

Meanwhile, 194 more deaths were reported, raising the nationwide death toll to 30,348, the authorities said, adding 924,044 people have so far recovered from the disease.

New Zealand reported one new imported case of COVID-19 from government managed isolation site and no new community cases on Tuesday.

The imported case involved a person arriving from London via Kuala Lumpur who tested positive for COVID-19 after arrival, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told a press briefing.

The case brought New Zealand's confirmed cases to 1,585. The number of the country's active cases remained at 68 after seven people have recovered, Bloomfield said.

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States, saw its COVID-19 cases exceed 300,000 and death toll hit 7,000 on Monday.

"Today, Public Health has confirmed 8 new deaths and 861 new cases of COVID-19," the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced in a statement, adding the figures reached the grim milestone of 7,000 confirmed COVID-19 deaths and 300,614 positive cases of the fatal disease.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil reported 15,726 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 5,409,854, said the Brazilian health ministry on Monday.

Meanwhile, 263 people died from the disease, bringing the death toll to 157,397, said the ministry.

Sao Paulo has been the worst hit state by the virus with 38,753 deaths and 1,092,843 cases, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 20,213 deaths and 302,746 cases, said the ministry.
