Malaysia and Indonesia strengthen higher education ties through new academic partnerships
The two countries aim to enhance cooperation in research, innovation and student mobility across Southeast Asia
Malaysia and Indonesia have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing collaboration in higher education during a meeting between Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Dato Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin and Indonesia’s Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Brian Yuliarto. This was reported by BERNAMA, a partner of TV BRICS.
A key outcome of the discussions was the proposal to establish the Malaysia–Indonesia Academic Consortium, a strategic platform to promote collaboration in green technology, artificial intelligence, healthcare and renewable energy. The consortium will also support postgraduate student exchanges and the creation of a joint Centre of Excellence.
Both sides agreed to explore further cooperation in research and innovation, including nuclear technology, aerospace and AI. Indonesia’s Education Fund Management Agency will now include scholarships for students to study at 15 Malaysian public universities, an initiative expected to open new academic pathways and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Both parties expressed optimism that closer Malaysia–Indonesia cooperation in education, science and technology will continue to deliver long-term benefits for their people and contribute to the region’s sustainable development.
