Malaysia National Library opens immersive learning centre to digitise heritage

The new facility uses virtual reality, augmented reality, and interactive technologies to expand public access to digital education and cultural resources

The National Library of Malaysia (PNM) has launched an Immersive Learning Centre aimed at accelerating the digitisation of the country’s cultural heritage while broadening access to technology-driven education. The initiative supports the government’s vision of transforming libraries into modern, inclusive knowledge hubs, reports BERNAMA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Expert said the centre strengthens the library’s role in leading digital transformation within the national library system. The facility introduces advanced tools, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), holograms, metaverse-based environments, interactive panels, curved LED screens, librarian avatars, and an AR photobooth to create more engaging and interactive learning experiences.

The initiative, carried out under the Ministry of National Unity, also seeks to enhance digital literacy and promote the use of technology as a platform for more integrated and inclusive educational programmes.

According to PNM, the library will continue expanding the use of modern technologies across its services to support human capital development and ensure that digital learning opportunities are accessible to people of all backgrounds and education levels.

Visitors have described the centre as a major step beyond the traditional library model. They noted that technology-based and interactive elements make learning more dynamic, attract younger audiences, and at the same time offer valuable educational experiences for adults, reflecting an approach designed to serve all segments of society.
