Meeting of the Joint Committee on Trade in Goods with ASEAN is held in India

The trade volume between India and ASEAN has increased to USD 131.58 billion in 2022-23

It was co-chaired by Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, and Mastura Ahmad Mustafa, Deputy Secretary General of Trade, Malaysia.

The meeting was attended by delegates from ASEAN countries namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

Under the AITIGA Joint Committee, eight sub-committees were established to negotiate various policy areas related to the Agreement. The first two meetings of the Joint Committee were held in May and August 2023.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India indicated that the committee held detailed discussions during the meeting. The subcommittees reported to the Joint Committee on the progress and outcome of their discussions on market access, rules of origin and standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment procedures.

The statement added that the trade volume between India and ASEAN has increased to USD 131.58 billion in 2022-23. The review of AITIGA will help further expand India-ASEAN trade in a balanced and sustainable manner.
Both sides aim to finalise the review in 2025.

The fourth meeting of the AITIGA Joint Committee is scheduled to be held in Malaysia in May 2024.
