More than 200,000 jobs were created in Brazil in September

The greatest growth in the number of vacancies was observed in the services sector

In September, 211,764 official jobs were created in Brazil, according to data from the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged), published on Monday, October 30, by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. This is reported by TV CULTURA, a partner of the TV BRICS.

This result represents a decrease of 23.8 per cent compared to the same month of 2022, when 278,023 jobs were created.

According to the data, there were 1,917,057 job hires and 1,705,293 layoffs. In the first nine months of 2023, there were 1.59 million Brazilians with a formal contract.

According to the study, a total of 44 million people in Brazil are currently working under a formal contract, the highest number ever recorded in the historical series (since June 2002).

The state of Sao Paulo created the most new jobs in September (47,306), followed by Pernambuco (18,864) and Rio de Janeiro (7,998). The least number of jobs were created in the states of Amapa (1,027), Roraima (763) and Acre (360). In terms of regional differences, the Southeast had the most official job openings at 82,350, followed by the Northeast (75,108), South (22,330), North (16,850) and Centre-West (14,793).

Number of jobs by economic sector

The largest increase in job openings was in the service sector with 98,206 official jobs for the month. This was followed by trade with 43,465 job openings, then manufacturing with a balance of 43,214 jobs, and in fourth place was construction with a balance of 20,941 jobs.

The least number of jobs for the month were in agriculture.

Wages

The average wage for the month was R$2,032.07 (US$402.5). Compared to the same month last year, the real increase was R$13.92 (US$2.76).
