More than 700 schoolchildren visit BRICS Festival at MGIMO

The event serves as a platform for discovering the culture, languages, and traditions of the BRICS countries

At the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia (MGIMO), a BRICS Festival for schoolchildren was held, bringing together more than 700 pupils. The event was organised with the support of the TV BRICS International Media Network, which acted as co-organiser and international information partner.

“MGIMO traditionally plays an important role in strengthening ties between Russia and the BRICS countries by training qualified international specialists. Events such as today’s festival help schoolchildren make an informed choice about their future profession and understand that studying the languages and cultures of other countries opens up broad prospects for them,” noted Igor Putintsev, Vice-Rector for Language and Pre-University Education.

The festival hosted interactive thematic quizzes, where participants learnt about the activities of the group and the media landscape of the BRICS countries. A Special Representative of TV BRICS spoke about the work of the multilingual newsroom and the promotion of the group’s agenda through modern digital formats.

“The TV BRICS International Media Network creates conditions in which countries can speak directly and exchange information, ideas and experience in the humanitarian and business spheres. At the same time, we not only organise equal cooperation in the media field but also create and implement international projects, including in the field of youth policy and education. Schoolchildren, students and young professionals are an important part of our target audience, with whom we communicate in the language of modern technologies and engaging digital formats. The media network provides young people with opportunities to access information about the diversity of the world through its foreign-language TV channels, educational content through the "Modern Russian" teleconferences, and professional development through communication with leaders of various professional fields via the "Experts" section on the multilingual TV BRICS portal,” noted Anastasiia Berresse, TV BRICS International Projects Manager.

The cultural part of the programme featured traditional dances, songs and poetry from the participating countries. MGIMO students performed the Arab dance Dabka, an Indian song in the Assamese language, modern Chinese poetry, and a song. The performances concluded with a Russian dance accompanied by music by P. I. Tchaikovsky.

Themed areas were available for guests, where they could learn about the university’s educational programmes and the activities of student clubs dedicated to different countries and regions.

Earlier in November, Chairman of TV BRICS Ivan Polyakov and Rector of MGIMO Academician Anatoly Torkunov signed a cooperation agreement to promote abroad the opportunities of Russian education and to contribute to strengthening international relations.
