Moscow International Film Festival in Russian capital to show films from BRICS countries

The films will be evaluated by juries from the BRICS member states

The 46th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) has opened in the Russian capital. The event will also feature the traditional BRICS festival, which includes feature films from Russia, China, Egypt, India, Iran, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. Filmmakers from Russia, the UAE, Ethiopia, China, South Africa and China will evaluate the competition films.

"In 2019, I had my first film screening in Brazil, and now I am here for the second time. I am honoured to represent my country. I believe that participating in BRICS events is a valuable experience," said South African filmmaker Moladelo Bossman.

"This is the first time Ethiopia is participating in the BRICS Film Festival. I am happy to be here. I believe this festival will help our countries co-operate more to achieve great results," said Yirgashewa Teshome Amare, a jury member from Ethiopia, in an exclusive commentary to TV BRICS.

This year's MIFF features films from more than 50 countries. In total, more than 260 films are in the programme, including the BRICS festival, which is about 20% more than in 2023. The main competition features 10 feature-length films from Russia, Serbia, Iran and other countries.

The main prize of the festival is the Golden Saint George. It is awarded to the best film in the competition programme and to the winner who has made a contribution to world cinema. The winners in seven categories are awarded the Silver St George. The festival also presents the Konstantin Stanislavsky "I Believe" honourable award.

The festival will be held from 19 to 26 April.
