Northern wild thyme is successfully cultivated in Saudi Arabia

The endangered northern wild thyme, known for its intense flavour and high nutritional value, is being successfully cultivated in the city of Arar.

The main valuable parts of this plant are the flowering branches and leaves, which not only have many uses but also contribute to increasing the vegetation cover in the region. This is reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Saudi Press Agency interviewed Mohammed Obaid Al-Jumayshi, member of the Aman Environmental Association in the Northern Borders, who has been cultivating wild thyme. "I started by planting wild thyme in my home, with two seedlings, and the experiment was successful. Then, I expanded to a larger site near Arar, suitable for plant growth, and now the farm has more than 3,000 seedlings of the northern wild thyme,” he said.

Experts say the region is rich in plants and trees that contribute to increasing green cover and are important for the environment. 

This plant has medicinal properties, has anti-inflammatory effects and gives a spicy aroma and flavour to food.
