Number of foreign tourists in Russia grows by 42.4% in the first half of the year

38.8 million tourists stayed in hotels, hotels and hostels in the first half of 2024. This is 11.8 per cent more than in the same period a year earlier, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation  stated, citing data from Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

"The tourism market continues to grow steadily. We support it within the framework of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry". This year we continue the programme of preferential lending for large investment projects, the total portfolio of which has reached 1.3 trillion rubles," said Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Vakhrukov.

According to the state statistical service, the number of foreign tourists staying in hotels and other collective accommodation in Russia increased by 42.4 per cent in the first half of the year. It is specified that 1.8 million foreign citizens used the services of Russian hotels.

Experts observe consistent growth dynamics of tourist flows from the Persian Gulf countries and the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2023, the number of guests was 83.6 million, which is 14.3 per cent more than a year earlier. Also last year, the stock of Russian hotels, sanatoriums and other accommodation facilities increased by almost 60,000 rooms.
