Prime Minister of Belarus: country is focused on SCO line work

The authorities of the republic are not giving up the idea of the country joining BRICS

Belarus shares the BRICS values, but is still focused on the work on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). This was stated by Prime Minister of the republic Roman Golovchenko on air of the TV channel "Belarus-1."

"We share the values of the BRICS and, perhaps, at some point we will become members of this association as well. But for now we are concentrating on our work in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation," he said.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers added that the Belarusian side participates in the work of those institutions that already exist.

Belarus has completed the procedures necessary to formalise its accession to the SCO, whose members are Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

The admission procedure for Belarus, which has had observer status with the organisation since 2015, was launched at the SCO summit in Samarkand in 2022.
