Putin: BRICS expansion marks beginning of new era of greater BRICS cooperation

Integration of new participants in BRICS is one of the goals of Russia's chairmanship in the group this year, President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with China's Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS. According to the leader, another priority is further work to strengthen the authority of the association in the international arena.

Putin noted that there are already effective mechanisms in the world that work on the principles of equality, fairness, transparency, respect and consideration of the interests of all participants.

"As vivid examples of mutually beneficial co-operation, we can cite the SCO and BRICS, which have firmly established themselves as key pillars of the emerging multipolar world order. They have become authoritative and dynamic international platforms, whose participants are building constructive political strategies"

He explained that this is the reason why the association is so attractive for the countries of the global South and East.

The leader added that Russian ministries, business and public circles have prepared a rich agenda for the BRICS presidency. We are talking about a wide range of areas for developing co-operation, including agriculture, energy, finance, intellectual property, healthcare, space and education.

Putin reminded that many specialised events have already taken place, and more than 200 events are envisaged in total. In addition to expert and ministerial conferences, a large number of youth and cultural events are planned. In June, Kazan will host the BRICS Sports Games, and in October, the summit of the association will be held in the capital of Tatarstan.

On 1 January 2024, Russia took over the BRICS chairmanship. Egypt, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the United Arab Emirates joined the group earlier this year.
