Real Stars. Tiny Frogs Found in India
A new species of tiny frogs has been found in the Western Ghats in India, Daily Mail reports.
These amphibia have white spots on sides reminding constellations, therefore they have been nicknamed “the dwarfish star frogs”. These frogs have been hiding from scientists for so long thanks to their camouflage blue-brown color and tiny size.
The frogs have been found by the researchers from the George Washington University.
For reference: the Western Ghats is a mountain chain on the Hindustan Peninsula, and a big natural reserve. This is a grandiose 1600-kilometer longmountain chain stretching along the western region of the Decanal Plateau.
It is one of the most ancient mountain massifs on the planet. It is remarkable for itspronounced monsoonal climate and immense biological diversity, including a number of endemic life forms. That means thata lot of fauna representatives can be met only in this place. Evergreen rainforests house 130 species of mammals, 180 species of amphibian, two thirds of which are endemics, and 500 bird species. More than 100 species of fish live in local waters.
