Russia and India are organizing a motor rally along the route travelled by Russian merchant Afanasy Nikitin
Russia and India are organizing a joint motor rally along the route described in Afanasy
Nikitin’s work “A Journey Beyond Three Seas”. The travel notes of the Russian merchant
date back to the 15th century and contain various descriptions of medieval India- and now
modern motorists plan to follow in his footsteps.
A corresponding agreement has been signed by the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAIC), the India Friendship Society and the India-Russia Friendship Foundation, reports Sibnovosti.ru (which cites TASS as its source).
Afanasy Nikitin travelled extensively throughout the Caucasus, Persia, India and Crimea. The merchant paid special attention to the Indian phase of his journey however, detailing the
political structure, customs and traditions of the country.
Also of note is the fact that The RAIC, the Friendship Society with India and the India-Russia Friendship Fund have agreed on the creation of the Bangalore-Skolkovo youth platform, which is set to bring students and scholars together.
Additionally, joint events are planned for the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma
Gandhi, the leader of the Indian independence movement.
