Russia and India to Expand Cooperation in Nuclear Power Engineering
Cooperation of Russia and India in the atomic sphere can come to a new level. They are planning joint construction of NPPs in the third countries, Sibnovosti.ru with reference to RIA Novostireports.
'There are some prospects of involvement of Indian companies to construction of objects like the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plantabroad, in the third countries. We alreadyhavea successful example of construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh, where Russia and India work together,' - the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Igor Morgulovsaid at the Russian-Indian forum in Moscow.
The cooperation of Russia and India in nuclear power started in 1988, when they signed the intergovernmental agreement on Russia’s construction of the KudankulamNPP in Tamil Nadu state in India. The unit No. 1 began to generate power in 2013, and in 2016, the construction was put intofull operation.
The unit No. 2 was put into guarantee operation in March, 2017. On October 15, 2016 the second stage of the Kudankulam NPP was established, and its construction began a year ago.
Now Rosatomis preparing for construction of the third stage of the NPP. They are planning to begin work on the fifth and sixth power units in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
