Russia hosts the BRICS Future Skills Challenge Championship
Russia is hosting the BRICS Future Skills Challenge, one of the joint projects of the five countries in the field of vocational education.
Students from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa learn and develop their skills under the guidance of top experts: from the secrets of craftsmanship to how to present their project to an international audience. This is reported by CGTN, a partner of the TV BRICS network.
It is no coincidence that the word "future" appears in the title of the championship. This is the vector the organisers are setting: to understand and anticipate how the world will develop, to anticipate which skills and professions will be in demand at a new turn of history.
"The championship aims to provide human resources to the economies of countries that are cooperating in very important areas of development. To improve and better technological cooperation, to develop new technologies. The format and content of the championship relies on the emergence of human resources who will provide joint investment projects to the BRICS alliance," said Alina Doskanova, Deputy Director General of the Agency for Skills and Professional Development for International Activities.
Space technologies, renewable energy sources, agriculture, digitalisation - there are more than 70 competencies in total in the programme. From forecasting to creating new educational programmes, the championship is one of the stages of the large Future Skills project.
The point of the project is not just to bring out the best in each discipline. It can also be used to share experiences and develop common professional standards for all BRICS countries.
Growing a pineapple in Yakutia and strawberries in the desert, for example, the City Farming competence is a step towards strengthening food security. For the BRICS countries - comprising 42% of the world's population - organic food production in urban environments could become a strategic industry in the future.
"The advantage over traditional farming is that the plants here grow twice as fast as in the open air. The bottom line is: no pathogens, no weather changes. We always have sunshine and a comfortable breeze," says Anton Sheremeev, manager of the City Farming competence.
Startups are valuable fruits that are expected in all BRICS countries. The BRICS Future Skills Challenge is more than just a competition - it is an opportunity to find like-minded people and partners from other countries and build a team that can change the world for the better.
