Russian ambassador: China-Russia relations reach historic high

Relations between Russia and China have reached an unprecedented level and now stand as a model of constructive interaction between major powers in the 21st century, Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a diplomatic forum in Beijing, Morgulov stated that the bilateral relationship has achieved a historic high in terms of depth, stability, and mutual trust, continuing to develop in a steady and dynamic manner. This is reported by Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

He noted that 2026 will be a landmark year for the two countries, marking both the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership of coordination.

According to Morgulov, the foundational treaty signed in 2001 has demonstrated long-term resilience. After its initial 20-year term expired in 2021, it was extended and is expected to undergo another renewal in 2026, reinforcing the legal and political framework underpinning relations between Moscow and Beijing.

The ambassador also highlighted the introduction of mutual visa-free travel as a major development over the past year. He said the policy has already delivered tangible results by expanding tourism and people-to-people exchanges while opening new opportunities for broader cooperation.

Addressing the international context, Morgulov said Russia and China play a key role in promoting a genuinely multipolar world.
