Russian and Brazilian Ministers of Foreign Affairs draw conclusions on their negotiations
The negotiations were followed by a live broadcast of the joint press conference with Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and Carlos França, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, on November 30, at 2 pm.
In the course of negotiations, the Ministers discussed various aspects of Russian-Brazilian interaction in politics, trade, economy, science and technology, as well as a wide range of matters of interest on the international and regional agenda.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated, “Our common interests lie in the further building up of humanitarian ties, cultural and educational exchanges, and one of the symbols of our strategic partnership in this particular area is definitely the Bolshoi School opened since 2000 in the city of Joinville, Santa Catarina state."
Sergey Lavrov added, “We are equally interested in developing coordination on the foreign policy front, and, in this context, we have discussed our work in such structures as the UN, G-20, BRICS, and here we see new prospects opening up for us since Brazil will become a member of the UN Security Council on January 1 next year. ”
Brazil is Russia's largest trade and economic partner within the CELAC, which accounts for more than 30% of our country's trade in the region.
The Brazilian Foreign Minister noted, “We are happy to say that trade operations between our countries have reached a level preceding the pandemic.”
“I think that the agenda of today's meeting reflected the strong ties that have been established between our countries within the framework of strategic partnership.”
“And for the period of 2022-2023, Brazil and Russia will work hand in hand in the Security Council to promote world peace. And I also would like to express my gratitude again for the support that Russia provided for Brazil's candidacy for the seat of a permanent member of the UN Security Council. We also discussed the prospects for our further cooperation within the BRICS, outlined a number of important initiatives in which, I believe, we can be engaged in on a full-time basis.”
Russia-Brazil relations are developing in the format of a strategic partnership: the bilateral Basic Agreement on Partnership Relations was signed in 2000, and in 2010 the two states signed the Strategic Partnership Action Plan.
Russia and Brazil actively interact on many international platforms, including the BRICS and the G-20.
As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia mentioned, “Russia-Brazil Foreign Ministers Coordination Plan for 2022-2024, that was just signed in your presence, has become a good mechanism for the implementation of foreign policy coordination."
