Russia is interested in simplifying visa procedures with Arab countries to further expand people-to-people contacts and economic cooperation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with journalists from Arab states. This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Lavrov confirmed that the first Russia–Arab summit will take place once new dates are agreed upon, noting that the final documents for the event are nearly ready. The minister added that Russia’s relations with Arab nations continue to grow steadily across all sectors.

Addressing a question about visa-free travel for Bahraini citizens, Lavrov acknowledged that the matter requires attention and expressed confidence that it would be resolved. “We have excellent relations with Bahrain in all areas. The country is a partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the attractiveness of Bahrain for tourists is as evident as that of Russia for Bahraini citizens,” he said.

Lavrov underlined the active role of the League of Arab States in shaping a multipolar global order and its growing influence in economic and political affairs. Trade between Russia and LAS member states has now exceeded US$34 billion – several times higher than two decades ago. “We are on the right path. The growth dynamics are strong,” he stated.

The foreign minister emphasised that cooperation extends beyond traditional energy projects. Russia and Arab countries are strengthening collaboration in agriculture, nuclear technology, education, and tourism. He highlighted the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant as a flagship example of peaceful nuclear cooperation.

Thousands of students from LAS member states continue to study in Russia under annual government quotas, contributing to educational and cultural exchange. Lavrov also noted the growing mutual tourism flow and the success of joint cultural projects such as "Russian Seasons" in Gulf countries and other regions.

Lavrov concluded by reaffirming Russia’s commitment to further strengthening ties with the Arab world through deeper economic partnership, cultural exchange, and improved travel opportunities.
