Russian President visit gives India global strategic boost

The visit will strengthen commercial and diplomatic relations between the countries

The short visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi for the annual Summit and one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given India a global strategic boost, averred Makkal Kural and Trinity Mirror Editor R. Muthu Kumar at a panel discussion on “India-Russia Special and Priviliged Strategic Partnership”, organised by the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Chennai at the Russian House on Wednesday, as reported by Trinity Mirror, a partner of TV BRICS.

Russian President Putin, at the very outset, highlighted the significance of his visit by speaking about the number of globally crucial areas such as energy, high technology and space in which India and Russia are working together.

The visit of Putin during these testing times shows the importance that Kremlin attaches to New Delhi as a global partner.

In fact, this seems to be his first standalone bilateral trip since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Earlier Putin was in Geneva this year for a summit with his US counterpart Joe Biden, but that was in a third country.. a neutral venue as the prevailing situation demands!

But Putin coming to India for day to have a heart to heart talk with Modi shows his eagerness and significance that he attaches to the relationship with India.

The Russian President is essentially making a statement that India is a priority for him over and above many of Moscow’s other partners, in political and trade spheres.
